Sevenoaks: One of England’s Wealthiest Towns, Yet Emergency Housing Falls Short of Basic Necessities Like a Shower

Zero Signal Reception The thick double glazing and insulation materials prevent any mobile signal from entering the room. To get even minimal signal for essential calls, messages, or basic internet access, I am forced to leave the window open, exposing myself to the cold and the outside world.

A Window to Nowhere: Living Without Signal in Emergency Accommodation – Zero Signal Reception Approved by the Sevenoaks CounciL

This setup, APPROVED BY SEVENOAKS TOWN COUNCIL as EMERGENCY ACCOMMODATION, leaves me with TWO CHOICES in the winter cold: keep the WINDOW open or the DOOR open. Otherwise, I face COMPLETE ISOLATION. The thick glazing and lack of signal block any communication, leaving me cut off from the outside world. It’s an impossible situation, forced to choose between freezing cold and being completely disconnected.

Struggling for Connectivity and Safety in Sevenoaks’ Emergency Accommodation I have to live with Door Open

Struggling for Connectivity and Safety: Living with the Open Door in Emergency Accommodation
Living in emergency accommodation approved by Sevenoaks Council has become unbearable. The thick walls and energy-efficient glass block all mobile signal, leaving me isolated. To get any signal and access basic communication, I have no choice but to keep the door open. Without it, there is no signal making it impossible to stay connected .

As this is emergency accommodation, I am not allowed to install even Wi-Fi, further limiting my ability to stay connected. During winter, with temperatures dropping below 0°C, this workaround is no longer feasible, making the accommodation unsafe and uninhabitable. Despite raising these issues with the council and management, no solution has been provided. This accommodation is inadequate and fails to meet basic living standards, highlighting the need for immediate action from Sevenoaks Council to improve the situation for vulnerable residents.

Emergency Accommodation provided by the Sevenoaks Council 📵 No Connectivity, NO Mobile Signal for Calls An ǀ NO SHOWER

Forced Disconnection and Isolation. Dehumanizing Emergency Accommodation: Sent Far Away and Left Isolated

When the Sevenoaks Town Housing Department placed me in emergency accommodation, they ensured I was far from Sevenoaks, isolating me in Rochester, Strood. The property lacked mobile signal or connectivity due to energy-efficient windows and thick brick walls. This made it impossible to contact emergency services, support networks, or even respond to urgent council emails.

By placing residents far away and ensuring they remain unheard, the council creates a deliberate system of isolation, leaving vulnerable individuals without the tools to advocate for themselves. Connectivity is not a luxury—it’s a basic necessity for safety, support, and recovery.
